Local chef, co-owner of RND Coffee to compete on Food Network’s ‘Chopped’

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — One local chef is getting ready to show off his talents on the Food Network.

Co-owner of Roasters Next Door (RND) Coffee in Roanoke, Quincy Randolph announced on social media that he will be making his debut in the Food Network’s series, “Chopped.” The show will air on Jan. 9 at 8 pm EST.

Even though this is Randolph’s first time in the fierce “Chopped” cooking competition, in 2022, he competed in “Beat Bobby Flay.” On Season 31 Episode 15, Randolph dukes it out with Chicago Chef, Cam Waron.

“Every time the Food Network calls, I am always over the moon,” said Randolph. “I am also very grateful and very appreciative to get to go on and show my skills and try to represent Roanoke in the best way that I can.”

RND is a small-batch roastery and coffee lounge that first sprouted in the Wasena neighborhood in Star City. The cafe fosters the community through coffee, culinary, creativity, and hospitality. In 2021, Randolph hosted a grand opening introducing its second RND location in Vinton.

Now he is Kicking off 2024 with a bang and bringing his authentic flavors to Food Network. Throughout the competition, four chefs are presented with mystery baskets full of ingredients and they have to create three-course meals.

“There’s this giant clock on the wall that’s like ticking down. So you open the box, the timer starts immediately, and you start to feel the pressure and just have to cook. You just have to go,” explained Randolph.

To give us a glimpse of a few flavors, Randolph meets WFXR’s Hazelmarie Anderson in the Community Kitchen!

Diving into bold, mouthwatering flavors, Randolph prepared a hot chicken sandwich featuring pepper jack cheese, pickles, mayo, and homemade chili oil that is on the Food Hut RKE menu. He also prepared fresh cookies and cream beignets.

Randolph also revealed that he joined the Food Hut RKE team. The restaurant is in the Westin area and is connected to the Golden Cactus Brewing.

RKE Food Hut is open for dinner Wednesday through Saturday and brunch on Sundays from 10 am to 2 pm
